BAPTISM REQUIREMENTS FOR CHILDREN

St. Mary's parishioners are requested to schedule their baptisms in accordance with the following requirements:

Requirements are:

1. Parents are expected to be registered members of this parish. For those from another parish seeking Baptism, the same requirements will apply, but additionally a letter of permission from your proper pastor will be required.

2. Sponsors (Godparents) must have a certificate from their proper pastor indicating they are practicing Catholics eligible for being a sponsor. In order to be a sponsor, one must be a Catholic, be Confirmed and at least 16 years old. By church law, only one sponsor is absolutely necessary. Therefore, in rare situations when a family desires a non-Catholic Christian of good character to be part of the ceremony, then that person can replace one of the sponsors and take an active role as a Christian witness. That non-Catholic is not recorded or considered a sponsor. Finally, a non-Christian is a totally different situation.

3. Parents are required to participate in a one-hour baptismal preparation class, godparents are also encouraged to attend. This class will be scheduled prior to the baptism with religious education personnel.

4. Please do not set a baptism date until after completing and fulfilling any other pre-requisite.
